FIAPM Exit Exam Prerequisite Information

Application for IAPM Exit Examination can be submitted under 4 categories. IAPM Category, Non-IAPM Category, One-year Fellowship outside India Category, Senior pain physicians Category.  The eligibility Criteria are as follows.

Common requirements for all Categories

  1. Medical License: Candidates applying for the exit examination should have a valid unrestricted medical license, They need to submit a copy of NMC/ SMC registration.
  2. Membership of ISSP: Candidates applying for the exit examination should have ISSP Membership. Associate members of ISSP or candidates who are not Anaesthesiology postgraduates (MD, DA or  DNB in  Anaesthesiology ) cannot appear for the exams.
  3. Publication – Candidates applying for the exit examination should have the publication in chronic pain
  4. Post-Graduation Certificate in Anaesthesiology (MD – Anaesthesiology, Diploma in Anaesthesiology or  DNB in  Anaesthesiology )

Category wise Additional requirements 

IAPM Category

  1. Trainees of IAPM who have entered IAPM-accredited training centres through the IAPM  Entry Examination and completed a full year of Training in IAPM-accredited centres.
  2. One publication is mandatory on chronic pain.  (In the Indian Journal of Pain)3

Non-IAPM Category

  1. One-year full-time residential fellowship programme in pain medicine from any Private organisation, the program head of the said program should be  FIAPM qualified.
  2. Structural program fellow from an Indian university (Completed a fully residential university-accredited structured pain training program of minimum one-year duration and passed successfully)
  3. One publication is mandatory on chronic pain.3

One-year Fellowship Outside India Category

  1. Completed full residential fellowship outside India of minimum 1-year duration & currently practising in India.
  2. One publication is mandatory on chronic pain.3

Senior pain physicians Category

  1. ISSP membership for at least 5 years
  2. Two publications are mandatory on pain, at least one of the publications must be on chronic pain. 3
  3. Recommendation letter from GC member of ISSP/IAPM. (Recommendation letter will include duration of pain practice, number of patients in pain OPD & procedures) it should be on official letterhead with the physical signature of the member.

2. One-year full-time residential fellowship programme completion certificate from FIAPM programme head / or Passing certificate of a university-accredited structured pain training program of 1 year
3. The pdf copy of one publication on chronic pain.
4. MBBS Certificate
5. Post-Graduation Certificate (MD – Anaesthesiology, Diploma in Anaesthesiology or DNB in Anaesthesiology )
6. Indian Medical Registration Certificate (NMC/ State Medical Council)
Rs. 40,000 + 18% GST (10,000/- less if reappearing)+ Portal Charges 18% GST Additional on above Fee
One-year Fellowship Outside India 1. ISSP Membership Number
2. One year full residential fellowship certificate completed outside India.
3. Pdf copy of the published publication on chronic pain

Senior Pain Physicians Category
  1. ISSP membership number (With at least 5 years of completed membership duration)
  2. The pdf copy of two published Publications related to pain (at least one of the publications must be on chronic pain)
  3. Recommendation letter from GC member of ISSP/IAPM on his letterhead. (Recommendation letter will include duration of pain practice, number of patients in pain OPD & procedures)

  5. Post-Graduation Certificate (MD – Anaesthesiology, Diploma in Anaesthesiology or  DNB in  Anaesthesiology )
  6. Indian Medical Registration Certificate (NMC/ State Medical Council)

Additional Notes

  1. The application for the exit exam and the required documents are to be submitted online only,
  2. You will receive an email from the Registrar’s office confirming your eligibility and approval for the exam. In case your application is not approved by the Registrar, you will be informed and your Fees will be refunded to the source of payment. Portal Charges are non-refundable.
  3. Publication is mandatory for all the categories applying for the exit exam.
    1. For Senior pain physicians: 2 publications are mandatory of which one should be compulsory in chronic pain.
    2.  All other categories (IAPM, Non-IAPM, Overseas): 1 publication in chronic pain.
    3. The publications that have already been published will be considered only, not those under acceptance. Exception – Only for IAPM trainees (Manuscript submission letter in Indian Journal of Pain )
    4. Publications must be in a  Peer Reviewed Journal or Book Chapters.
    5.  Publications in the conference books will not be accepted
  4. Cancellation Policy – Once approved by the review committee Exam fee is non-refundable.
    1. Under exceptional situations like the ill health of the candidate or the death of a family member, you can apply to the registrar with supportive documents. A partial refund may be allowed subject to the approval of IAPM GC, as per the policy mentioned below –
      1. From the date of approval to 2 weeks before the exam  – 50% refund (Excluding the portal Charges)
      2. From 2 weeks before the exam to the Date of the exam  – No refund
    2. The exam fees will not be carried forward to the next exam.
  5. The name on all supporting documentation must be consistent and match the name under which you apply. If it does not, you will need to submit legal documentation of the name change (e.g., a marriage/divorce certificate) and all other supporting documentation
  6. Prerequisite requirements are subject to change at any time. Applicants must meet current prerequisite requirements in effect at the time of application. IAPM at its discretion may request from you or others information concerning matters relevant to eligibility for certification and certification status. Documentation received in a language other than English must include a notarized translation in English. All documents, communications, and other information received by IAPM  become the property of IAPM  and will not be returned.
  7. If due to some unforeseen circumstances in the exam city,  which is beyond the control of IAPM  (for example  – Flood, Earthquake, Epidemic, Political Turmoil etc ) exam needs to defer and rescheduled, the exam fees will be carried forward but IAPM is not liable to pay for any other compensation. The same cancellation provision clause will be applied to the new date of examination too.
  8. The IAPM GC’s decision is final regarding a particular candidate’s eligibility.
